The conversations to have during a most unusual pandemic.
The strength of citizens and communities is paramount during trying times. Citizens across our great country have routinely engaged earthquakes, fires, floods, hurricanes, crime, and other challenges the year around. Those engagements matured into programs that deliver solutions for when public first responders and officials are overwhelmed and cannot resolve every situation. Citizen engagement became so apparent following 9-11 that FEMA adopted citizen led initiatives as Citizen Corps programs.
Your Citizen engagement can be invaluable during the Covid 19 virus pandemic. Begin with the public health sources listed below - so that you are aware of the latest guidance. Then carefully examine the other references and links found on this website. Elements of the Neighborhood Watch, Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), and Medical Reserve Corp can be key for your Family, Neighborhood, health care providers, and first responders.
Every citizen’s effective Awareness, Prevention, Preparation, and Response will make the needed difference.
And never forget the Primary CERT rule that has a tenfold meaning because of community spread of the virus. The Rule: you cannot help others until and unless you and yours’ are safe and healthy.
The ripple effects of the virus are quickly unfolding so stay current by using the public health sources at the City, County, State, and Federal levels to stay informed. They provide a layered response so understanding the responsibilities of each can be key.
